Dee Cowell Demonstration 1.7.09

Today Dee Cowell was our demonstrator unlike other demonstrations where the artist paints a picture for us , Dee demonstrated the use of different mediums such as textured paste, additives for retarding the drying times of acrylics, additives for thickening and giving texture to acrylics and glazing mediums. She demonstrated how to use these mediums with various paints inks and pastels and how to combine the use of mediums and paints. The demonstration and information she gave use left us all with urge to go home and be creative with our paintings and to be more experimental.

Summer Exhibition 13.6.09

It's Saturday 13th June and we finally got to hold our summer exhibition on the green at Station Approach Virginia Water after a false start the Saturday before when we were rained off. Today has been glorious sunshine and the visitors have been out in force there were less exhibitors this year partly because of the re-scheduling of the event nevertheless we put on quite a good show. Considering the present economic climate we still managed to sell 16 paintings and many items of hand crafted jewellery and sales were in excess of £900 which was pleasing to the Society.

When The Rain Came Down 6.6.09

Disappointment was also in the air as well as the rain on Saturday 6th June we arrived at the green early and even got as far as putting up the gazebo's and some of the stands in the hope that the rain would ease off by opening time at 10 o'clock alas it was not to be so it was decided that we would regroup and try again next Saturday 13th June so we would ask you all to put your hands together and pray for sunshine.

Robina Hattersley came to Virginia Water to give us a talk about travelling around the world with a sketch book. Not only is Robina a very good artist but she also has a gift for the telling of a story, her reports on her world travels was only surpassed by her ingenious instructions on how to manage the paraphernalia needed for painting whilst travelling much, thanks to Robina
