The Late Rodney Lucas President of Virginia Water Art Society

A compilation of Paintings By The Late Rodney Lucas including his own demonstration for the Society and a Portrait of him by another Artist

The Late Rodney Lucas President of Virginia Water Art Society

It is with great sadness that we say good by to our President Rodney Lucas who passed away on 10th September 2014.  The funeral was held at the Henley on Thames Woodland Burial Grounds photographed below, sheep graze the fields and red Kites are abundant and in a few years from now the natural landscape will be covered in a forest. On the day the sun was shining and the landscape was peaceful, 7 members of the Society went to pay our respects and the funeral was well attended. Refreshments were served in the Maltsters Arms afterwards.   Rodney was such an integral part of the Society and much loved and appreciated for all the wonderful work he did for the Society over so many years.  He was almost a founder member in the 1960's and held the longest membership.  Last year we reversed an earlier decision not to have any more honorary members and mad him an honorary member to express our gratitude.

My Favourite Piece show and tell 8.1.14

Virginia Water Art Society January 2014 meeting was held in the Methodist Church Hall on 8th Jan as a special favour to the Horticultural Society who had booked a speaker for the same day in our usual meeting place as we did not have a demonstrator this time we moved our meeting next door to the Church Hall.  the meeting was also of a much smaller audience due to bad weather, however the meeting which was planned as a show and tell where members of the Society bring along a favourite piece of art be it paintings sculpture or photos and tell us the history of the piece discussion often ensue and the event usually turns out to be a very interesting and enjoyable evening and this years was no exception. Those who managed to get to the meeting enjoyed sharing others artworks.

Members Meeting Show and Tell 3.10.12

The members of Virginia Water Art Society spent and evening with a difference at their monthly meeting last Wednesday each member came with one or two pictures which they have in their own homes and which they particularly like, some were their own paintings others were prints or photographs, all had their own particular story attached.  The group spent the evening talking about the pictures in an very relaxed and informal meeting.  As we usually have professional Artist demonstrate their work it mad a nice change for us to spend the evening socially and getting to know the other members likes with regard to Art.

Carnival Capers 30.6.12

Carnival Capers on the Green was bit windy but at least the rain held off I spent the afternoon painting with anyone who would take up the paintbrush, dozens of children came to paint with me and many of their parents this particular young man in the pictures is definitely destined to be an artist as he came back time and again to paint  he said he enjoyed painting and actually added a few features of his own to enhance the composition
