Curtis Tappenden Talk and Demonstration Sketchbook and Poetry 2.11.11

 This evening saw the most entertaining and action packed demonstration that Virginia Water Art Society have witness in quite a while.  Curtis Tappenden started the evening with slides from his and others sketchbooks with accompanying poetry, giving us an incite to what inspires his art and how words plays a big part in his work. His animated poetry reading certainly ensured the audience were with him. In the second half of the evening Curtis talked us through his thinking process as he sketched using pens ink and watercolour in a most entertaining manner.

Kim Page Workshop with Virginia Water Art Society members 15.10.11

Eleven of us gathered together in the Church Hall in Virginia Water to prepare for a workshop with Kim Page who is a very talented local Artist who's water colours are superb.  Kim joined us in the church hall and firstly demonstrated an Autumn scene showing and explaining his technique.  After which some of us attempted to paint our own version of this scene and some opted to paint their own Autumn composition.  After lunch Kim did individual paintings with each of us concentrating on skies, trees, or water these painted sketches we were able to take away with us as a reminder of the method and colours he used. We all enjoyed our day with Kim Page and look forward to seeing him again when he does a demonstration at our monthly meeting in January 2012

Henry Rimmer Demonstration in Watercolour 5.10.11

This Months Demonstrator Henry Rimmer showed us his method of painting with watercolour Henry at the age of eighty has been painting and demonstrating for a good many years and his calm and methodical approach made the process look amazingly easy.  The picture he painted this evening he has kindly donated to the Society and will be framed and raffled at the November meeting.

The picture below shows me holding the award that had been made by Doug Coe and carries the name of Pat Hare who was a founder member of the Society and when she died she left the Society a legacy. We have had the paint pallet shaped award made in her honour and The Mayor of Runnymede David Parr will choose a favourite painting at the winter exhibition this year and the Artist of that painting will receive the Pat Hare award which will have their name engraved upon it and they will keep the award for 1 year, the process will then be repeated the following year.
